About this blog

I review books, and I talk about television.  These media for art are available to just about everyone.  Both are able to deliver the heights of artistic expression right into your home, and both are able to deliver mind-candy and the truly atrocious.  Personally, I think it’s in everyone’s interest to encourage more of the art and less of the atrocious.  As for the mind-candy, well, who doesn’t need a little of that now and then?

Some books are sent to me by the publisher.  Some I find on my own.  I try to remember there’s a flesh and blood person with feelings on the other side of the author’s name, and to call it like I see it.  It’s not always easy to hit the balance point on that.

Television.  Why television, why not movies?  Well, I could do do movies, and maybe will someday, but television is the medium that makes performing arts available to everyone, including shut-ins, including people who live twenty miles form the nearest multiplex.   Good acting, good stories, good scripts, can be found on the broadcast networks as well as cable, and that sort of thing ought to be encouraged.

Comments are welcome.  Just because it’s my nature to express myself as if I’m Right doesn’t mean I am.  I do make an effort to check my facts before I say a thing is so.  This is different from opinion.  My opinion is as good as yours, and vice versa.

There are some glitches in this revision of the site.  It’s proving difficult to add graphics.  That may be function of the theme I’ve chosen, it may be site-wide, I don’t know.  While you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, it’s helpful to see what the cover looks like.  Bear with me while I figure it out.
